A creamy protein smoothie with the classic flavour combination of rich dark chocolate and cool mint. Instead of a piece of chocolate or peppermint pattie that runs the risk of melting or being squished, you can safely drink this mint chocolate concoction to get your fix AND do it with more protein and fewer carbohydrates, calories and fat than almost any blended frozen drink!
I probably should have waited until closer to Christmas to post this recipe. I can’t drink it and NOT think about After Eight chocolate mint patties, and those only seem to show up on store shelves in December (although I guess nowadays, November is not out of the question – you just can’t bring out the Christmas stuff until AFTER Hallowe’en, and ideally not until after November 11th Remembrance Day in Canada, mmkay big corporate marketing executives and retail planners?).
To get that classic dark chocolate and mint flavour combination, this recipe doesn’t skimp on the unsweetened cocoa powder to impart a rich, dark chocolate taste and just the right amount of mint to bring that unique coolness. Adding creamy almond milk (or you could substitute coconut milk) also lends to the “mouth-feel” (umame) of an indulgent peppermint pattie, whether it be an After Eight square or a York Peppermint Pattie or an Andes Mint Chocolate. Whip this up next time you’re craving any of the foregoing, and let me know what you think!
